Bad Ingredients In Food

Question:

I've been into bodybuilding for some time now, probably about 5 years on and off and I was looking for some tips on what to look out for or stay away from when grocery shopping.

I know there are bad ingredients in foods but I was hoping you could help me better understand which ingredient in common foods to stay away from.

I know most packaged foods are not good for you but some are okay to have right?

My goal is to build muscle and lean up a little bit, and I think I've got my workout down pretty good it's just the diet now. Just basic knowledge would be so helpful.

You're right, most packaged foods are not ideal for a bodybuilder, or really anyone... that's why it's necessary to prepare most, if not all of your food.

Top ingredient to look out for in foods
Stay away from any food that has the following in its ingredients: Table sugar as a main ingredient, high fructose corn syrup, anything deep fried, white flour, hydrogenated oil, aspartame, sucralose, MSG, crystalline fructose, tartrazine, artificial colors and flavors/dyes, autolyzed yeast, anything that starts with "propyl", carbonated beverages...

Anything that you can't pronounce and it is in the main ingredient of your food, stay away from it, because it is most likely not food and is some kind of preservative to help extend the shelf life of the product, but doesn't help extend yours.

Stay away from foods that contain several ingredients because the longer the list, the more likely it is not natural.
