Whey Supplements and Leg Workouts

Question: Taking whey supplements after legs workout...

I am 21 year old boy. Weight: 68 kgs. Height: 5ft 8in.

I have a lean upper body and a heavy lower body.
I don't want to increase the size of my legs further.

So, can I skip taking whey supplements after my leg workout while taking them on all days of upper body workout?
Currently I am taking EAS 100% whey protein.

My current legs workout include squats, leg press, leg extension, leg curl and then calves.

Does taking heavy weights on these exercises increase the size of my leg muscles?

Yes, you can, but it's best to get that protein in your body after every workout.

Naturally as the body adapts to a workout, it is basically telling you that it has reached a point where it can handle the challenge of the workout.

This means, the body is getting stronger.

In your case, if you are not wanting your legs to get any bigger, don't add any more weight to your leg exercises.

If you increase the weight on any exercise it is suggesting that muscle is getting stronger and getting bigger. To avoid this, don't increase the weight any further.

You say you have a lean upper body, and a heavy lower body...

With your leg workouts, do light weight, and increase the reps.

Also, you may want to try body weight exercises for legs:

Lunges, body weight squats, calf raises...

I usually take a one day break after my leg workouts.

So can I skip the protein supplement on the day of workout and also the day after?

Answer:

Yes, you can skip the protein supplements as long you are getting other forms of protein in your diet.

Whey protein is great to take, but when you are not consuming whey protein, make sure you are still getting good protein sources in your diet.

You can still build muscle without whey protein. Whey is simply there for convenience.

Aim for around 1 gram of protein, for every 2 pounds of body weight, per day.

You can get this protein from whey, and other non-whey sources.
